LFG-to-High Btu Pipeline Quality Gas

Valley and Monroeville Landfills

Export and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Valley and Monroeville Landfills are located approximately 20 miles east of Montauk’s headquarters in Pittsburgh.  The landfills are two of the largest in western Pennsylvania with each receiving more than 1,200 tons of refuse per day.  Waste Management, Inc. owns and operates both of these facilities.

Montauk, as part of a joint venture, owns a 50% interest in two identical 5.5 mmscfd inlet capacity LFG-to-high Btu gas processing plants located at the Valley and Monroeville landfills.  Both plants utilize membranes as the primary gas separation technology.  They were, in fact, the first landfill gas processing facilities to utilize membrane technology to yield high Btu gas in the world.  As such, they also have the longest tenure of operation as membrane plants. Both plants commenced operations in 2006. Monroeville delivers processed pipeline quality gas to a low-pressure local distribution pipeline for consumption by the immediate surrounding community.  At Valley the processed pipeline quality gas is sold into a gas high-pressure gas transmission line.
