LFG-to-High Btu Pipeline Quality Gas

McCarty Road Landfill

Houston, Texas

The McCarty Road landfill is owned and operated by Allied Waste and is one of the largest waste disposal facilities in Texas.  Montauk’s GSF Energy subsidiary has owned and operated the LFG-to-high Btu gas processing plant here since its construction was completed in 1986. Our processing plant has an inlet capacity of 9 mmscfd which converts to roughly 4.5 mmscfd of pipeline quality gas at the plant outlet. Processed gas from McCarty Road is currently sold to Centerpoint Energy for distribution to local Houston-area homes and businesses. The plant operates continuously 24 hours per day, 7 days per week except for scheduled outages. The plant produces enough gas to service the annual consumption needs of 15,000 homes in the Houston area.

The principal technology used for gas separation at McCarty Road is Selexol, a proprietary process whose application on LFG was pioneered in the late 1970’s by GSF. Our experience with this technology is unsurpassed. Our current McCarty Road operations staff has over 50 years of combined experience with Selexol and LFG-to-high Btu gas production.

GSF also is responsible for operating the McCarty Road LFG collection system in compliance with air emissions requirements. This function has been performed by on-site GSF staff continuously since operations commenced in 1986.
